The Winnipeg Boys’ Choir has been a hallmark of choral excellence in our city for 96 years. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been motivated to do what is necessary to keep our community together: singing outside, meeting as small-group ensembles for shorter rehearsals, livestreaming rehearsals over Zoom, and creating a virtual Christmas performance.
With your financial support, we hope to produce and share more virtual choral recording projects, and to purchase emerging technology that makes it possible to hold meaningful rehearsals over Zoom.
Zoom rehearsals, where one must sing on mute, have presented many musical and social challenges for our choristers. Boys who know choir to be a sanctuary where they develop friendships and musical sophistication through choral singing, quite understandably, have become disengaged and disheartened. Several boys have stopped singing altogether. The JackTrip/Virtual Studio approach to virtual music-making allows for singing together online, eliminating latency to the point that each participant can unmute his mic and hear others in real-time. We believe providing this environment is essential to keeping boys engaged in this vital component of their development.
The boys very much miss setting performance goals and sharing their music with you. To that end, we are committed to creating and sharing recordings of their singing in the weeks ahead. Your support will enable us to do this.
Our goal is to raise $5000 by March 1. Please consider supporting the WBC with a one-time or monthly donation in service of ensuring that the voices of our boys continue to be nurtured and celebrated. We welcome donations by e-transfer, PayPal, or by cheque to the address below. We can issue a tax receipt for donations of $10 or over.
We are grateful to families, friends, community-minded people, and music lovers like you, who have supported us over the decades.
